Windows XP should be eliminated from office PCs by the end of 2012, research firm Gartner advises in a June 2 report, as both ISVs (independent software vendors) and application-builders begin to cut off their support for the aging operating system in earnest. At the same time, Gartner advises that businesses upgrading to Windows 7 begin planning and testing for the transition this year. Gartner's advice echoes a report from before the launch of Windows 7, which has sold more than 90 million licenses since its October 2009 debut.
