IT Pros Say Professional Pride Offsets Job Stress

Geek Pride  95% of IT pros say they're proud that they've chosen tech as a career.

Tech workers realize that their jobs can be very stressful, as many are expected to be available to their organizations 24/7. But a large majority of them say that it’s all worthwhile because they take a lot of pride in their job and chosen career, according to a recent survey from TEKsystems. The findings focus on various work-related sentiments among IT professionals, who weigh in on the highs and lows of their job. On the positive side, the vast majority find a lot of value in what they do. On the not-so-hot side are the excessive time demands that can lead to a lack of work-life balance and considerable stress. “Even though IT professionals across the board—from entry to senior level—feel the stress of the job, they continue to be proud of their careers,” says Rachel Russell, director of TEKsystems. “But when the demands of a job require attention 24/7, it’s critical for organizations to manage their talent so they remain motivated and engaged.” TEKsystems is an IT staffing solutions/talent management/services company. An estimated 200 IT professionals took part in the research.
