North Ridgeville Students Run ‘Capable Confections’, Aid Learning Disabilities

Capable Confections

North Ridgeville High School (NRHS) is home to ‘Capable Confections’, a student-run project providing valuable life skills to those with learning disabilities. The students operate their own business setup, managing everything from baking delicious goods to handling finances.

Innovation encapsulates the spirit of ‘Capable Confections’ as it offers these students a chance to learn and thrive in a supportive environment. Teachers at NRHS commend the project for helping students polish their social and independence skills.

The project also provides hands-on experience in production, with delicious confections such as chocolate-dipped pretzels and Oreos being just a few of their offerings. Stefanie Gaudino, an intervention specialist at NRHS, guides the students through the process and safe food handling practices. The profit goes right back into supporting school programs.

Apart from creating products, the students learn kitchen safety, food sanitation, nutrition planning, meal preparation, home management, and core business skills. Such essential tools enable them to consider living independently or in residential care.

This venture enables students to appreciate their achievements, fostering self-esteem and interpersonal skills. The project is designed to prepare these students for their future, providing practical real-world understanding.

All proceeds from ‘Capable Confections’ go back into the non-profit, supporting food supplies, materials, and student-focused social activities. This business model promotes effective resource use, amplifying community support.

The project stands as a testament to student engagement in the community, highlighting their hard work and dedication. For those interested, ‘Capable Confections’ treats can be purchased conveniently through email orders. Supporters not only enjoy delicious treats but also contribute to a worthwhile cause.
