Wisconsin’s cannabis industry experiences rapid growth

"Cannabis Industry Growth"

The cannabis industry in Wisconsin has seen rapid expansion, with many entrepreneurs capitalising on changing hemp laws. This has led to an influx of CBD-based products, available at health stores, supermarkets, and online platforms. The state’s economy has benefitted, and consumers now have a larger variety of natural wellness products to choose from.

Entrepreneur Sara Scott-Hitchings found relief from her chronic migraines through medicinal cannabis. After seeing the benefits first-hand, she was motivated to start her own business specialising in alternative medicinal cannabis products. Despite some concerns over Wisconsin’s cannabis laws, Hitchings was pleasantly surprised by the number of shops selling legally permitted cannabis products, such as CBD capsules.

Legalities surrounding cannabis can be confusing, but Wisconsin entrepreneurs have found a way around vague hemp laws.

Wisconsin’s cannabis industry: Expansion and potential

This has opened the doors for a variety of cannabis products to enter the market. Although ambiguity in legislation does cause confusion amongst residents, the booming CBD industry signals the growing demand for such products.

The range of cannabis products in Wisconsin differs from neighbouring states like Michigan and Illinois due to varying state regulations, plant chemistry, and the specific applications of different cannabis species. Whilst more progressive laws in Michigan and Illinois permit a wider variety of cannabis species and derivatives, the strict limitations in Wisconsin mainly permit CBD-based offerings. This leads to a narrower market catering primarily to those seeking CBD-focused products.

Differences between the availability and variety of cannabis products in different states can often be attributed to regulations, plant chemistry, and application possibilities. As such, it is essential to differentiate between stores that primarily sell hemp products (including CBD oils and hemp clothing) and dispensaries selling legally authorised delta-9 THC products.

There are now efforts to declassify marijuana as a dangerous substance, which may lead to its decriminalisation and increased research. Currently, Wisconsin lacks the necessary legislation to allow full cannabis commerce, but as perspectives evolve, so too may the laws surrounding cannabis use.
