Six teenagers arrested after chaotic night

Chaotic Night

Six teenagers were arrested after a “night of chaos” in Pittsford involving seven vehicles that were either stolen or targeted for theft, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. A deputy reported spotting a Kia SUV that had “damage indicative of being stolen” leaving a St. John Fisher University parking lot around 11:20 p.m. on Friday.

The driver reportedly refused to stop, drove head-on toward the deputy, and cut through several lawns to evade arrest. Deputies responded about 30 minutes later to Kurt Road for a report of a stolen vehicle left in a driveway, with the occupants running away. Deputies confirmed the vehicle had been stolen from Hunters Run.

While searching the neighborhood, they also found a license plate and other items from a Hyundai reported stolen from Kendon Road. Shortly before 12:15 a.m., deputies responded to a report of a crash involving two vehicles racing on Concord Drive. There, they found the stolen Hyundai.

Meanwhile, deputies reported nearly being hit by a Toyota minivan speeding on East Street. The driver reportedly continued driving erratically and crashed into a tree at the intersection with East Jefferson Road, with the tree stopping the van from going into the Erie Canal.

Deputies detained five teens at the scene, and the K-9 unit helped find the sixth suspect. The driver was determined to be a repeat offender. “For crime victims, this is beyond inconvenience, as they have to repair or replace their stolen cars and property, costing time and money,” Sheriff Todd Baxter said in a statement.

“I am renewing the community’s call for lawmakers to pass clear legislation on what can be done with dangerous criminals and repeat offenders.”

Deputies also reported finding evidence the suspects went through a car on Brickston Drive, stealing a purse. They also reported finding a Hyundai on the same street with damage to the steering column. Another Hyundai was found on Kurt Road that had been reported stolen out of East Rochester.

All six suspects, ranging in age from 14-16, are charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. They were issued appearance tickets.
