OnePlus Watch 2R balances features, affordability

OnePlus Watch

The OnePlus Watch 2R offers a compelling balance of features and affordability for Android users seeking a capable smartwatch. It retains many of the key specs from the pricier OnePlus Watch 2, including the 1.43-inch AMOLED display, Snapdragon chip, 2GB RAM, and fast VOOC charging. However, it makes some compromises to hit a lower price point, such as switching from sapphire to Gorilla Glass and from steel to aluminum construction.

These changes result in a lighter 59g weight that many users will find more comfortable, especially during workouts. The Watch 2R delivers strong performance, easily handling background tasks. Battery life impresses, lasting around 3 days of typical use or 2 days with the always-on display active.

When the battery runs low, OnePlus’ speedy charging can top it up in under an hour.

Balancing features and affordability

Fitness tracking sees notable improvements, with a dual-band GPS and better heart rate sensor enabling more accurate run and workout metrics.

The Watch 2R can measure in-depth running data like form, balance, and stride length. Basic health monitoring covers expected features like heart rate, stress, sleep, breathing rate, and SpO2. More advanced options like ECG and skin temperature are absent.

While lacking some premium features, the OnePlus Watch 2R nails core functionality and excels in areas like performance and battery life. Starting at $229, it offers compelling value and is a top contender among affordable Android smartwatches. Budget-conscious users who can live without a few bells and whistles will find a lot to like in OnePlus’ latest wearable.
