A new physical card game called “Console Wars” has been launched on Kickstarter by XboxEra. The game takes a satirical and parody-filled spin on the gaming industry and the competition between video game platforms, publishers, and gamers. In Console Wars, players must battle for ownership of intellectual property across multiple genres, from action-packed first-person shooters to iconic platformers and complex RPGs.
Throughout the game, players try to amass as many fans as possible, as fans are crucial to holding onto gaming franchises. Jon Clarke, Co-founder of XboxEra and creator of Console Wars, said, “Console Wars is something the entire industry knows about and actively dislikes. So, what if we took all that toxicity, all that online hate, and turned it into something positive and fun?
Something where we could all collectively point and laugh at how ridiculous the very concept of ‘console warring’ is?

That’s how Console Wars The Card Game came to be.”
Clarke’s love for gaming extends beyond just covering the industry.
He enjoys playing board and card games with friends, especially since split-screen gaming is increasingly rare. Last year, he had the idea of creating his own card game, and after countless design iterations, playtesting with friends, and artwork from Predrag, it’s ready to be shared with the world. As a small, community-funded independent project, XboxEra relies on supporters to bring the game to life.
The Kickstarter campaign is now live, and details can be found on their Kickstarter page. From August 21-25, 2024, Console Wars The Card Game will be playable in the new Cards & Boards Area at Gamescom 2024 in Cologne, Germany. Gaming media and the public can head to the XboxEra booth to get the first hands-on experience with the game while the Kickstarter campaign is live.
