Huawei has unveiled its latest smartwatch, the Watch GT 5 Pro, which boasts a stylish titanium build and advanced health monitoring features. The watch comes in two sizes: a 42 mm ceramic case and a 46 mm titanium case. We took a closer look at the larger version in the classic variant with a titanium strap.
The 46 mm version features a robust titanium alloy case at the front and a ceramic cover at the back. The bezel is not rotatable, and the display is framed by a red and blue semicircle. The octagonal design is relatively simple yet distinct from its round predecessor.
The Classic Edition’s strap is also made of titanium and is easily adjustable without tools for a wrist circumference of approximately 140 to 210 mm using attachable and detachable links. It is closed with a folding clasp. The Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro has IP69K certification, protecting it against dust, water, and corrosion, and is water-resistant up to 5 ATM.
Huawei has included a speaker and a microphone, with Bluetooth for wireless communication. NFC is also present but cannot be used for contactless payments due to a lack of support. The watch runs on HarmonyOS and is compatible with iOS (from version 13.0) and Android (from version 8.0).
Stylish build and health features
Setup is quick and straightforward through the Huawei Health app. The watch can be operated using a rotatable and pressable crown on the top right edge and an action button at the bottom, which doubles as a touch-sensitive surface for ECG analysis.
The high-resolution touchscreen is also used for most operations, with various menus accessible through swipes and taps. The Watch GT 5 Pro supports Bluetooth telephony, allowing users to answer and make calls directly from the wrist when the connected smartphone is within range. Notifications are displayed with minimal delay but may be abbreviated.
The watch includes numerous health monitoring features, such as ECG analysis, heart rate, blood oxygen saturation (SpO2), stress level, and skin temperature measurements. It also tracks sleep quality and offers cycle tracking for female users. Activity tracking is comprehensive, with various sports modes and VO2 Max for some activities.
Huawei’s new TruSensor 6.0 offers high accuracy in heart rate measurement, comparable to devices like the Polar H10 chest strap. Blood oxygen saturation deviations are minimal but still at a good accuracy level compared to the Braun Pulse Oximeter 1. The Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro impresses with its stylish titanium build, comprehensive health monitoring features, and excellent build quality.
While there are some limitations with iOS compatibility and the lack of contactless payment support, the smartwatch offers a strong proposition for Android users looking for a premium wearable.
