WFH divides

A Delhi man’s post on working from home with parents has gone viral, sparking debate and dividing the internet. In his now-viral message, Shubh, an X user from Delhi, compared the experience of working from home (WFH) while living with parents to competing in ‘Squid Game,’ a popular and intense survival series. The post depicts the chaotic and humorous struggles of balancing work responsibilities and family life.

“WFH is a dream when you’ve got your own cozy little apartment in a city like Bangalore, Mumbai, or even Delhi, especially with your partner by your side. But WFH while living with your parents? That’s a whole new level of Squid Game,” Shubh wrote.

Shubh’s light-hearted complaint struck a chord with many users, who shared their own tales of juggling online meetings amidst unintended family interruptions.

Experiences of WFH with parents

“Background music will be like ‘zara ek glass pani dena beta, fan off kardo, ek cup chai bana de’ (Please get us a glass of water, switch off the fan, please make a cup of tea),” one user commented.

Another user shared, “My father once barged in during a client call and loudly said ‘Tell them we’re busy, talk later.'”

Some users even described their WFH experience with family as torturous. “WFH from my mother’s house once a year – it’s pure torture,” one remarked. However, not everyone agreed with the negative sentiments.

Numerous users defended family life and branded Shubh as “ungrateful.”

“Being and staying with parents is a luxury not many understand,” one user said. Another user added, “WFH with parents, wife, and a two-year-old daughter – and I love every minute of it.”

In the ongoing debate over the pros and cons of WFH, it seems the internet remains divided. While some see working from home with family as a blessing, others find it a significant challenge.

Regardless, Shubh’s post has certainly ignited a lively discussion among netizens.
