Insider's take: "The work is engaging and nearly everyone you work with is brilliant. [There's] lots of effort put into personal development and growth. … The atmosphere is more collaborative than competitive."

Dan Schawbel, managing partner of research firm Millennial Branding, recently compiled advice from five CEOs about how to get ahead at work: 1. Define your goals. 2. Choose the right people to align with. 3. Work harder than everyone else. 4. Go beyond your comfort zone. 5. Read as much as you can. Few professionals would take issue with these suggestions, which came from the CEOs of LinkedIn, Sodexo, Deloitte, Yahoo! and Berkshire Hathaway (headed by Warren Buffet). The reality, however, is that you can follow all these guidelines and still not get as far as you'd like if you end up in the wrong company. An organization with a culture of backstabbing politics, minimal training and development opportunities, and dysfunctional management is usually the kind of place where careers go to die. Fortunately, the folks at Glassdoor have come up with a list of the top companies for career opportunities, and we're featuring the top 10 here. The perspectives from employees who posted reviews on Glassdoor make it clear that most of these organizations have little patience for petty politics and do-nothing management. Instead, they place a high value on developing promising talent and giving proven performers enough freedom to pursue value-driven contributions. The companies were selected based on about 500,000 worker reviews over the last 12 months.
