As data volumes swell, the need for robust storage solutions continues to grow. However, devising a strategy for dealing with today's complex data environment is a daunting challenge for companies of all sizes. In many cases, organizations wind up with a mélange of vendor solutions. They often don't know where all their data is located—or how to access it quickly and effectively. In addition, backups and archiving can become a huge challenge. A just released study of IT professionals conducted by storage solutions provider Cohesity found that many companies are not approaching the data storage task in a focused manner. Among other things, organizations rely on a patchwork of vendors and solutions, they frequently lack dashboards and reporting capabilities, and they often face difficulties when trying to get a handle on costs. Many are not approaching storage in an optimal way. Consequently, these organizations are falling behind and are spending more money than necessary on their data. Here's a look at some of the key findings—and what business and IT leaders need to know in order to build a better storage strategy.
