Midsize businesses are struggling to keep up with the rapid pace of technological change, according to a recent survey from SWC Technology Partners. The resulting report, the "2012 Technology Trends Survey," covers a broad range of topics. Ultimately, however, it points out that these companies face unique challenges in taking advantage of IT to stay competitive—especially when it comes to a constant overload of tech advances. And many confess that they've grown dependent on staff members who provide a unique knowledge of a particular system or tech niche. "Change has always been a hallmark of IT, but we are beginning to see extreme shifts in business models and IT strategy," says Elliott Baretz, vice president over business development at SWC. "How today's IT leaders respond to this new chapter is going to separate those who simply keep up with technology from those who prosper through it." More than 224 IT and business leaders at midsize organizations took part in the research.
