SAP Goes Vegas With Exec Hire

SAP has decided it wants a piece of Vegas action.

The German software giant on Tuesday announced that it has named Rod Massey, former chief information officer of Clark County, Nevada–which includes the city of Las Vegas–to run the unit that markets software and services to federal, state and local government organizations around the world.

SAP says Massey, vice president for the public sector industry business unit, will be responsible for growing and managing relationships with SAP’s government customers. He will report to Tom Shirk, president of SAP’s global public services business unit, which encompasses public sector, health care, utilities and higher education markets.

Clark County, which covers 7,900 square miles in Nevada, has been a longtime SAP customer. As CIO of Clark County, Massey oversaw an SAP enterprise resource planning project involving 2,600 employees in 40 different departments and agencies.

“Rod has been a great advocate of SAP and has a true understanding of the challenges public sector CIOs face everyday,” Shirk said, in statement.

Massey previously worked as a technology manager for various local governments, including the cities of Palo Alto, Calif., Milpitas, Calif., and Scottsdale, Ariz.

A spokeswoman for Clark County says the county is currently conducting a search for a CIO to replace Massey.
