As organizations expand their digital plans—often with highly ambitious goals—there's more pressure on IT departments to ensure that the network can support those efforts, according to a 2015 survey commissioned by Verizon Enterprise Solutions and conducted by Forrester Consulting. The resulting report, "Digital Transformation Powers Your Business," indicates that most companies are either completing or have finished executing their enterprise digital strategy development, and they've increased investment in the network as part of that initiative. However, the report points out that IT must work closely with business to fully understand its needs. Increasing demands on the network are further complicating the issue, given that an hour of critical application failure costs $500,000 to $1 million for a Fortune 1000 company. "Customers and employees demand responsiveness and speed in every interaction," said Chris Formant, global president of Verizon Enterprise Solutions, "making it even more important for enterprises to reinvigorate their interest in building and maintaining flexible, robust and reliable networks. … The network is at the core of any digital initiative." More than 600 global organization decision-makers took part in the research.
