Going to work is rapidly becoming a thing of the past as many companies pursue alternative scheduling and take advantage of worker mobility. The vast majority of companies are either already implementing "work shifting" to create more flexible arrangements for employees or are planning to do so in the near future, according to a recent survey commissioned by Citrix Systems. Mobility is a driving factor, as the wealth of devices and apps out there enable staffers to get the job done anywhere at anytime. For employees, this means flexible schedules, sharply reduced or eliminated commute times and costs and improved work/life balance. For organizations, benefits include reduced costs for real estate, increased productivity and agility, and enhanced recruiting advantages. "Work shifting provides people with added mobility and flexibility to move work to the most convenient and productive times, locations and devices," says Mick Hollison, vice president, integrated marketing and strategy for Citrix. "We've long believed that it is a key part of a solid business and IT strategy." An estimated 1,100 IT professionals and decision-makers in 11 nations took part in the research, which was conducted by Vanson Bourne for Citrix. For more about the survey, click here.
