Will Intelligent Automation 'Unleash' Employees?
With the pace of work growing over the past year by the equivalent of an extra work day every week, organizations are showing significant interest in intelligent automation technologies, according to a recent survey from ServiceNow. The resulting report, "Today's State of Work: At the Breaking Point," indicates that the vast majority of managers and executives feel their skilled employees spend too much time on administrative tasks. In defining intelligent automation as "software such as artificial intelligence or machine learning that streamlines decision-making to improve the speed and accuracy of business processes," the research reveals that most survey respondents believe that intelligent automation will boost productivity, while "unleashing" staffers to be more creative. Such liberation can lead to better business results. In fact, companies that are considered highly automated are experiencing greater revenue growth than those that aren't. "Today, businesses need to work at light speed," according to the report. "With the pace of work increasing dramatically every year, productivity and agility are mission-critical. … Creativity and teamwork are the new currency, and that demands unswerving focus and commitment—unchained from the shackles of routine manual tasks. Intelligent automation unlocks this brighter future. By working hand in hand with machines, employees can free their time for what matters—driving better business outcomes, unleashing radical innovation, increasing customer satisfaction and enhancing service quality." Nearly 1,875 global managers, executives and C-level leaders took part in the research, which was conducted by Lawless Research.
