Top Qualities of DevOps Team

A high-performing DevOps team can elevate IT performance to dramatic levels of technology deployment, according to a recent survey from Puppet Labs. The resulting "2015 State of DevOps Report" indicates that DevOps practices, such as infrastructure as code and continuous delivery, are greatly helping companies boost tech delivery speed and reliability. In fact, organizations with high-performing DevOps teams deploy technology 30 times more frequently and 200 times more quickly than their peers, findings reveal. They also have 60 percent fewer service disruptions due to change failures, and they recover 168 times faster when they do experience failure. The research underscores "the importance of making IT a strategic business priority," said Nigel Kersten, CIO at Puppet Labs. "The best part is, we don't have to reinvent the wheel. Lean management has evolved over 100 years, and when you apply those practices to software delivery, you get the same results: faster cycle times, higher quality and lower costs." In addition to select survey findings, we're including highlights of a section in the report that focuses on the top qualities of high-performing DevOps teams. One quality that's lacking is gender diversity: The report reveals that female representation in DevOps teams lags behind that found in other IT groups. More than 4,975 IT professionals, C-level executives and other company representatives took part in the research.
