Employers and Workers Differ on Engagement Factors

Employers and professionals are not on the same page when it comes to what drives employee engagement, according to a recent survey from Randstad. Employees want to work for organizations that encourage a comfortable but stimulating environment and that invest in merit-based compensation rewards, as well as training and development. Employers, however, are falling short on these and other key factors, findings show. So why should companies care about their employees' job satisfaction? Because workers with a high level of engagement boost productivity by 22 percent, according to a recent Gallup survey. "There is clearly a disconnect in what employees want and what employers are actually providing," says Jim Link, chief HR officer at Randstad North America. "Employee engagement is not just a nice-to-have factor that organizations should consider. It can have a tangible impact on a company's bottom line. Engaged workers are invested in organizations, and businesses that get it right will have a workforce committed to personal achievements and the overall mission of their employer."
