The IoT Sparks Innovation, Creates Opportunities

Companies use the IoT to improve staff and customer experiences, streamline work flows and business processes, discover new revenue streams and spark innovation.

The majority of organizations today are planning, piloting or implementing an Internet of things initiative, according to a recent survey from TEKsystems. The widespread adoption draws attention to the staggering potential impact of this tech phenomenon, as companies view the IoT as a means to improve employee and customer experiences, streamline work flows and business processes, discover new revenue streams and spark innovation. There are, of course, challenges to address, including the increased exposure of data to hackers. And IT and business leaders must work together to make a convincing case for IoT investments. Once they do, however, opportunities for meaningful impact appear to be nearly limitless. "Organizations [that] are able to successfully implement IoT projects to better understand their business and customers will be positioned to make more strategic and informed decisions," said Jason Hayman, research manager for TEKsystems. "Organizations that are able to develop strong partnerships internally between IT and business leadership, and externally with key staffing and services providers, will be more successful and efficient in moving through the project phases and delivering meaningful results for the business." More than 200 IT and business leaders took part in the research.
