Web App Problems Hurt Business & IT Pros' Careers

Nearly all quality assurance (QA) and development professionals deal with web app quality issues that hurt the business, according to a recent survey from Sencha. The resulting report, "The State of Web Application Testing," indicates that these issues occur at least monthly for most organizations, leading to customer dissatisfaction, reputational damage, greater inefficiencies and revenue losses. They can also impact IT careers, findings reveal, with team members often getting demoted or even fired after a QA issue causes a business problem. Automating QA testing would help, but most survey respondents said their company needs to make significant improvements in implementing this. "As long as there has been software, there have been software bugs," the report states. "The need to find and fix quality issues early in the development cycle has always been baked into the core philosophy of every serious development team, even in the face of intense delivery pressure. … The failure to meet these customer expectations can have dire consequences to the business." More than 1,000 QA and development professionals took part in the research, which was conducted by Dimensional Research.
