Dell will broaden its relationship with Advanced Micro Devices processors, starting in September.
The Round Rock, Texas, PC maker on Aug. 17 said it would launch a line of Dimension consumer desktops containing AMD’s chips in September.
It will also add a two-socket AMD Opteron machine to its server line by the end of the year, the company said in its second fiscal quarter earnings statement.
Dell had previously announced a plan to deliver AMD processor-based servers by the end of 2006.
However, it had only indicated a plan to offer multiprocessor machines, expected to include four Opterons.
Now the company says it will offer both two and four processor machines.
