10 Cities With the Best IT Job Opportunities
Would you like to work in a city with plenty of IT job openings and good salaries? A place where companies score high for job satisfaction and work-life balance? Well, thanks to the recently published "25 Best Cities for Jobs for 2016" list from Glassdoor, you'll know where to start job hunting. Glassdoor evaluated each city's overall score based on local hiring opportunities, employment compensation, home values, job satisfaction levels and work-life balance. At the top of the list are metro meccas for tech talent. San Jose, San Francisco, Seattle, Boston and Washington, D.C., round out the top five, but the other cities listed also have plentiful IT job opportunities. We've included the top 10 cities for tech jobs here, along with a sampling of hot job titles in each one. (Not surprisingly, data scientist and solutions architect constantly pop up as top in-demand skills.) Meanwhile, bigger doesn't necessarily translate into better, as many of the cities included here demonstrate. "Many of the nation's mid-sized cities stand out for offering some of the greatest job prospects combined with salaries that allow people to stretch their dollar further," said Andrew Chamberlain, chief economist for Glassdoor. "It's not a surprise to see cities like Seattle and Austin at the top since they have rising technology communities, and great institutions for higher education and research, as well as affordable neighborhoods." Glassdoor compiled the ranking using job listings and user-generated content—which included 12 million workplace ratings and reviews—about more than 540,000 companies.
