HP will cutr 7.5 percent of its work force seeking to realize savings from its acquisition of Electronic Data Systems (EDS). HP will carry out the workforce reductions of EDS and HP employees over the next three years. Nearly half of the job reductions will take place in the United States. EDS was headquartered in Plano, Texas, near Dallas.

Google sees Android as an open-source platform for designing mobile devices, saying it will encourage innovation by allowing outside software developers to tinker with the system and create better mobile programs and services. The consortium of Hollywood studios, retailers, service providers, and consumer electronics and information technology companies, called the Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem, or DECE, is working on a "uniform digital media experience" but won't announce details until the Consumer Electronics Show. The consortium said it will call for interoperability of devices and websites, and usage rules that allow consumers to copy content onto household playback devices and to burn their content to physical media.
