Route-control software looks for the best (i.e., fastest or cheapest, depending on your preference) path instead of the one with the fewest hops. Use this quiz to find out if your company's needs warrant the additional infrastructure.

Currently, route control works only when you have multiple links to the Internet--so if you have only one service provider, the point is moot.

My company gets charged according to the throughput we use.

We maintain expensive dedicated lines for branch offices.

We offer e-commerce applications for the public or our partners.

Employees or partners use virtual private networks to access corporate data.

We address congestion and outages through manual router changes.
