Looking for apps to help you manage Gmail, store files and read news? A new list compiled by Tom Caswell, founder of Dynamic E-Learning Strategies and a consultant for the OpenCourseWare Consortium at MIT, offers some useful options. 1. Gmail Management


Blackmoon File Browser allows a wide assortment of Gmail attachments, well beyond images and PDFs. If you need to send a large Excel file to the boss, this app is for you.

2. File Management


Astro allows users to navigate around phone and SD cards, and to unzip files. It allows for "open as," so you can open Word docs as simple text.

3. News Reader


NewsRob is a free news reader that syncs to Google Reader.

4. Podcast Manager


BeyondPod can be set up to grab favorite podcasts on a schedule as long as you're within a WiFi connection.

5. Image Manager


Docs Pics allows you to connect with Google Docs and upload or download documents and photos.

6. Document Manager


Documents to Go costs about $10, but allows you to view and edit Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF docs.

7. ROM Manager


This simplifies the updating of new ROMs and backing up of old ones.

8. Music Manager


doubleTwist allows you to send existing iTunes playlists to Android, so you don't have to recreate the same list from scratch.

9. Fitness Manager


My Tracks allows you to record your biking/hiking/running routes - including time, speed, distance, elevation - and share via Google Maps.
