You may spend nearly as much time with your boss as you do at home, so it's important to have a good one, right? Unfortunately, too many managers make life miserable for employees. In fact, three out of four employees say dealing with their immediate supervisor is the most stressful part of their job, industry research reveals. Among complaints that workers have expressed about bosses: They're disrespectful. They have no concept of privacy and boundaries. They play favorites. They make threats and encourage a fear-driven culture. All of this leads to employee disengagement and counter-productivity. That said, you may be on the fence as to whether your manager is a strong leader or a lacking one. If your boss is on the good side of at least five of these qualities, you're probably in a good place. If not, you may want to consider changing your situation.
