A survey of over 400 IT pros by data-security firm Cyber-Ark indicates that tech workers have broad access to confidential data, and that they are using that access more now than before.

A survey of over 400 IT pros by data-security firm Cyber-Ark indicates that tech workers have broad access to confidential data, and that they are using that access more now than before.

74% can access confidential information that is not pertinent to their jobs

35% say they sometimes access information such as co-workers' salaries or minutes from meetings.

33% of IT pros said they accessed such information in last year's survey.

An increasing number of IT pros say they would take information if the lost they jobs.Compared with last year, six times as many said they would purloin financial or M&A data, and four times as many said they would copy passwords and R&D information.The survey found a six-fold increase in staff who would take financial reports or merger and acquisition plans, and a four-fold increase in those who would take CEO passwords and research and development plans.
