Eight Five Jobs at RealNetworks Eliminated
By Baselinemag | Posted 2010-06-28After the spinoff of its music-subscription streaming service Rhapsody as an independent company with Viacom, RealNetworks makes deeper job cuts in Seattle. The company is now down to roughly 1,300 employees. RealNetworks is a digital entertainment company known for its RealPlayer streaming platform, but is also involved in the mobile and casual gaming markets with its GameHouse studio.
Seattle-based RealNetworks is once again scaling back its operations and announced a restructuring of its operations which includes layoffs of 85 employees, according to a company statement from June 22.The layoffs include a 25 percent reduction in its executive ranks and the reorganization seeks to streamline its technology and media services divisions.
