What it means: Glen thinks that managers can do a lot to deteriorate a relationship with IT staffers by constantly directing them how to accomplish their project-related goals. Most geeks are very smart people and enjoy figuring out creative methods to solve problems. Micromanagement eliminates the joy of innovation for them—and also keeps them from dreaming up a brilliant course of action you may not have thought of.
