The Fastest Growing Cities for Tech Jobs
While traditional tech hot-spots like Silicon Valley, Seattle and New York continue to thrive, many unexpected regions are vying to become the nation's next hub for tech professionals. Raleigh, N.C., leads the pack with more than 1,100 tech jobs posted on an average day, according to Dice.com. While it didn't make the list of fastest-growing cities for tech jobs, the New York City/New Jersey metro area had the most opportunity, up 6 percent from the year before and listing 9,195 openings. The Washington, D.C., Baltimore area and Silicon Valley rounded up the top three usual suspects by volume. Overall there were more than 85,000 posted tech openings around the country on March 1, 2012. And IT pros can command higher salaries than in years past. Annual compensation increased two percentage points, to $88,000, Dice.com finds. The moral of the story: be flexible. "Consider going for that promotion, asking for a raise, or changing it up and finding that new opportunity."
