NASCAR is a byproduct of the prohibition era, where bootleggers built cars to outrun police. Today, it's one of the fastest growing sports in terms of popularity, and its racing teams are earning millions of dollars in endorsement and sponsorship deals. With that kind of money on the line, racers are looking for every edge they can find. The expected champion of this season, Jimmee Johnson and his Hendrick Motorsports credit their use of Siemens/UGS product lifecycle management for giving them ability to manipulate designs and expedite rebuild cycles. PLM is quickly finding its way into midmarket companies who are looking for manufacturing and design efficiencies. The technology isn't flawless or simple, as companies like Boeing and Airbus have discovered.
